ABOUT THE FILM
Estonia, 1988. It is the end of August, school is about to start, and Helen and her friends are making most of their summer break. The tension and anxiety in Tallinn have not yet reached the young people of Southern Estonia and therefore there is no concern. When Helen's mother goes missing, the girl is faced with great uncertainty. It is a time when nothing is certain anymore - neither in the country nor in the young girl's life.
INTRODUCTION
We are students of Kinomaja Film School and make short films under the supervision of professional filmmakers. The films will premiere at the Artis cinema, at the international youth film festival Koolifilm as well as at festivals all over Estonia and internationally.
The Koolifilm festival pass is also one of our rewards.
DIRECTOR'S COMMENT
I have been working on different film projects for the past three years and have tried different roles - cinematographer, sound, lighting, editor - but not yet the role of a director.
I have always been interested in history - what people wore, felt, ate, what music they listened to, how they spoke. Putting all this into a film seems like the best way to travel back in time and get the best possible overview of what it all might have looked like.
The short film "One Day or Day One" has been officially in the works since the summer of 2024, when I gathered my best ideas. The script was ready by December.
The basis for this story is my great-grandmother's home in Valga County, which has been empty for the past 20 years.
BUDGET
Half of the budget is for transportation costs, as the filming location is in Southern Estonia. The other half is divided equally between food, art-costumes, and equipment rental.
Filming will take place in July 2025, with the film being completed in September.
