We are Draakonipesa, a Tallinn-based theatre centre where four independent theatres are founded and hosted under its roof: Teater ProJekt, Mini Teater, Theatre Flying Cow, Theatre Astrel.
The centre has only been open for a year and a half but each of our theatres has a long history and our performances have won awards at festivals in Europe, Russia, China, Indonesia, South Korea, and Thailand.
Irina Marjapuu is an actress, director, and artist who founded Teater ProJekt. She combines puppet theatre and drama in her works in an incredibly inventive and beautiful way, creating miracles out of the most ordinary improvised materials.
Riina Buldaš combines many talents: she is a theater actress, the president of the Estonian branch of the international center UNIMA and a kind guardian angel of Draakonipesa.
Marina Evseeva is an actress and director who created a one-of-a-kind atmospheric Mini Teater in which the actors are puppets of animals and plants made by her from felted wool.
Marina Viatkina is a wonderful gentle actress, the creator of many puppet shows that our young viewers adore. Her imaginary worlds are charming and kind and everyone wishes they had a friend like her puppets.
Janika Koppel is an actress, director and the creator of a theatre with a name that elicits if not interest then a smile - Flying Cow. She uses the Dragon Dreaming system to organise the community in the theatre and studios in a harmonious manner.
We are quite literally under one roof, as we are located on the 4th floor, almost in the attic of a beautiful cosy building on Viru Street in Tallinn Old Town. The repertoire of our centre includes over 15 performances of various directions and styles (puppet theatre, object thea-tre, drama theatre, physical theatre) for the whole family as well as performances for adult audiences.
We have worked with directors such as Rein Agur (whose play "Pessi and Illusion" is in the theater's repertoire) and Jevgeny Ibragimov (who is making a new performance based on the mythology and wisdom of the Sufis, that will premiere in spring 2023). We organise street shows with puppets, acrobatics, juggling, fire shows and we invite unique theatres from around the world to perform for our guests. For example, in September 2022 we were visited by the actors and directors of Thailand's Moradokmai Theatre.
We perform in Estonian and Russian but many shows are performed without words and are understandable to all viewers, regardless of language barriers. We are experimenting with some shows being played in both Russian and Estonian at the same time.
We offer a variety of master classes including doll making, stage speech, stage movement, acrobatics and juggling. In the future we hope to further expand and supplement our workshop offers.
Around 70 children, youth, and adolescents are involved in the studios at the theatre Flying Cow.
We are open to new creative ideas and are willing to support the most bizarre concepts that aim to unite creative people in order to harmonize and illuminate the world around us.
Our main goal is to create a family theatre centre so that we can gather more people around this location, organise workshops, host international festivals and projects, invite directors with visions close to our hearts to stage new performances and our favourite theatres to show their performances here.
- The first goal of 2500€
To accomplish our mission, we must ensure that our Draakonipesa provides a warm place where to watch our heartfelt performances. We are collecting funds for the installation of a heating system for the space and the opportunity to comfortably and happily spend not one, but many happy winters, warmed also by the joy in our viewers' eyes and the warmth of their laughter and smiles.
- Additional goal of 1500€
If we can raise this amount and warm up Draakonipesa, the next logical step for us will be to create a better furnished space, for which we will purchase additional stage lighting equipment.
- Additional goal of 1500€
Warmth and light will accompany our Christmas Festival, which will take place from 23 December to 31 December 2022, as well as the "Christmas Tree Extravaganza" for children during the New Year holidays, which will take place from 2 January until 10 January 2023. We will collect this amount for organisational costs in order to meet and greet our viewers as warmly as possible. We will be organizing these activities regardless of the campaign success, but with your support we will be able to make it at a higher level and somewhat decrease the share of our self-financing.
We start our campaign in December - the month of miracles, Christmas, magic, and wish fulfillment. For us, it is symbolic: we enter the new year as if embarking on a new journey, with new dreams, ideas, and plans. We are not asking you to make our dreams come true; rather, we invite you to join us on this journey filled with dragons, wonders, and exciting stories in the hopes of fulfilling your own dreams.
Draakonipesa Theatre Center, in which several theatres have been blooming for a year, is similar to a field where completely different flowers and plants grow, interact and support each other, and the more diverse the types of flowers and herbs, the brighter, more fragrant, and resilient this field is. Our goal is to maintain a high creative level while also being able to find connections and support between completely different theatres and theatrical directions. Regardless of how this campaign concludes, we will continue working and celebrating all of our successes and failures!
