About us
Q-Space is a big cultural project about the LGBTQ+ community in Estonia, founded in 2022. It is dedicated to uplifting LGBTQ+ communities and supporting human rights. During its short period of operation Q-Space has organised:
- 12 public film events in Tallinn and Narva
- a demonstration on the 17th of May against targeted violence towards the LGBTQ+ community
- film screenings at Baltic Pride 2023
Simply put, we organise film screenings, discussions and workshops to promote visibility of the LGBTQ+ community in Estonia and spread awareness about the lives queer people lead. Since 2022, the events hosted by us have garnered more than 1600 visitors.
Our goal is to create a safe place for queer people in Estonia where everyone is respected, feels safe and can be themselves. To promote further reach and inclusivity, we hold our events in three languages: Estonian, Russian and English.
For our contribution to the queer cultural scene in Estonia, Q-Space received the honorary title of Rainbow Hero from the Estonian LGBT Association in 2023.
Our Goal
Our main goal for now is to organise Q-Space Festivals in Tallinn (November 30th to December 3rd) and Narva (December 15th-17th).
Q-Space Festival in Tallinn and Narva is a new cultural festival in Estonia that focuses on sharing the stories of LGBT people, expanding safe spaces for queer people and promoting acceptance in society through film screenings, panel discussions and other cultural events. All Q-Space events are organised in three languages and are thus accessible to not only Estonian and Russian speakers but other people living in Estonia as well. Q-Space is working on bringing dialogue and discussion on queer issues between different groups of society.
The Q-Space Festival Tallinn and Narva brings to the cities a range of vibrant events:
- screenings of new and internationally awarded films (3 full-length films, 2 documentaries and a collection of animated films) in the Artis cinema in Tallinn and in the art residency in Narva - NART
- discussions on relevant issues, such as being out and queer in school as well as the parenthood of trans people and acceptance by the their families
- Q&As with film creators
- workshop on emancipation through movement and dancing
- presentation of the comic book "How Much Queer Work" in Estonian
All films are shown with Estonian/English/Russian subtitles, discussions with guests are held in English.
Film festival programme with trailers can be found HERE.
We estimate 1500 visitors for the Q-Space Festival Tallinn and 700 visitors for the Q-Space Festival Narva.
How You can Support Us
Goal 1. Translating and Subtitling of films / 2500 EUR
We believe that everyone should have access to our films. To ensure inclusivity, we need to provide subtitles in three languages - Estonian, Russian and English. Let's make it possible to celebrate and enjoy queer cinema in a diverse multilingual community!
Goal 2. Workshops / 1600 EUR
Our festivals go beyond film screenings - we offer a platform for education, entertainment and open discussions. This milestone will fund workshops, panel discussions and music events that enrich our festival experience. These events allow our community to learn, engage and celebrate together.
Goal 3. Comic Book, Promotional Materials / 2000 EUR
Effective communication is key to the success of our festival. To ensure that everyone who might be interested knows about our events, we want to print flyers, posters and stickers which can help us reach a wider audience. This goal will also cover the cost of creating essential materials such as the comic book "How Much Queer Work" in Estonian - the first Estonian queer comic book! We also want to offer our community a range of rainbow merchandise, including pins and badges. These items will not only promote LGBTQ+ pride but will also serve as souvenirs to remember the festival.
Goal 4. Short educational videos from the festival's events / 2500 EUR
This goal ensures that our festival content is accessible to an audience outside of Tallinn and Narva. We are aware that not everyone interested in attending can find the time to attend the festivals. That's why we plan to document interactive events, discussions and interviews during the festival. This includes equipment, filming, editing and creating an educational multimedia product that will continue to raise awareness and understanding of LGBTQ+ issues.
After the festival we'll produce short videos summarizing all the discussions and key moments of our events. These videos will serve as a powerful tool for advocacy and queer education.
Every contribution matters
Your contributions will directly impact the success of the festivals and the broader LGBTQ+ community in Estonia. Every euro counts and your support will help us create a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment for all.
We understand that not everyone has the opportunity to help financially so any like, share and repost will greatly assist us in this important matter.
Together, we can make this film festival a reality and contribute to a more inclusive future for the LGBTQ+ community in Estonia.
Thank you so much for your support! We will be happy and grateful to present your gift in Tallinn or Narva. If you are outside of these cities, we will send your printed gift to the parcel terminal closest to you. Digital gifts, such as tickets and passes, will be sent to your email.
