New Thatched Roof for Polli Talu Arts CenterUser's  Marika Blossfeldt project in the category Civic initiative

We are gathering funds for Polli Talu Art Center, a non-profit organization, to replace the old thatched roof of the main house with a new thatched roof. Polli Talu's artistic director Marika Blossfeldt applied to the Department of Heritage protection in Estonia.

The project received a grant for 10000 EUR. The price for building a new thatched roof, including the demolition of the old roof, straightening the rafters and applying piles, the wooden understructure, fastening hardware, reed, crest rods as well as the application of the reed to the roof's understructure cost 31966.80 EUR. Our goal is to raise 21966.80 EUR. In order to use Hooandja's platform we need to pay an additional 8% as their fee (1910,10 EUR). Which means, we need to raise all together 23876,90 EUR.

We are dividing the campain into three financial goals.

7958,97 EUR - 1/3 of the sum necessary for building the new roof: Demolition of the old roof; straightening the rafters and applying piles; lumber for renewal of wooden under structure; fastening hardware; labor of creating new wooden understructure; hardware to fasten the new reed roof.

15917,94 EUR - 2/3 of the sum necessary for building the new roof: All of the above plus reed.

23876,90 EUR - 3/3 of the sum necessary for building the new roof: All of the above plus the fee for constructing the reed roof.

The amounts mentioned in the video do not reflect Hooandja's fee for using their platform.

It's not just a matter of replacing an old leaking roof with a new one, but preserving the heart of Polli Talu Arts Center. Without a working kitchen the center simply cannot function.

The farm was built in 1906. It consists of 5 original buildings. Marika bought the farm complex in 1995 and in 1996 started with the restoration process, which lasted several years. Each summer one of the roofs was rethatched.

Today, the reed roof of the main house is in dire need of being renewed. The roof is leaking in several places, which endangers the wooden understructure.

Marika's wholesome food is an integrative component of all workshops and events. The safe environment created by Marika and the soothing natural setting help our guests to escape the stress of everyday life and to get charged with fresh energy. Polli Talu offers dance, yoga and cooking retreats. Polli Talu's guests have experienced nourishment on the soul, body and spirit level for several decades.

This is where we need help from our supporters and friends.

The new thatched roof will be completed by the end of December 2024.
