Narva St.ARTUser's  Art Revolutionaries project in the category Art

We are the Art-Revolutionaries team that represents active and enterpreneurial Narva youth. Our objective is to induce positive changes in our hometown, make it brighter, and bring in something extraordinary and unique to highlight its history and culture.

Our team is made up of six innovative individuals aged from seventeen to nineteen years old (Anastassija Devadze, Daria Dmitrijeva, Nikolai Tsahhutin, Polina Bargan, Jevgenia Razgonjajeva, Danila Tsetsotkin). Together we are ready to conquer the peaks despite all the difficulties. The name of our team already makes it clear that we are highly creative guys  although none of us has been trained in art.

If not us, then who will give Narva fresh inspiration and highlight the town's peculiarity? That was the main question in our heads at the start. And because of that, we decided to take part in the Garage 48 hackathon. At the very beginning, it seemed like very crazy stuff. However, everything turned out better than we could imagine. After all, our participation in the hackathon brought us not only victory but also financial and moral support. Also we were supported financially by “Cultural Endowment of Estonia”.

Having decided to dispel the perception of Narva as a city with nondescript and gray streets, plain walls, and general despondency, we chose the urban space category in the hackathon.

Our solution was to make absolutely new eye-catching art objects, which will be able to attract tourists and encourage local residents to look at our hometown from a completely different perspective.

For us, art objects aren't just bright stains on the walls, they're something more. Every mural carries a certain meaning emphasizing a cultural component of the city. We focus on the town's cultural urbanization by using non-standard ways of solving several problems at once and giving a fresh look at what Narva can become in the long-term perspective. This idea also offers a wealth of opportunities to local artists by providing them with the physical platform for self-realisation.

The main project idea for the initial activities of our team was the theme that is closely related to the Kreenholm Manufactory.

Not many young people know how important this huge heritage, with its centuries-old history, is for our grandparents, mothers and fathers. We were surprised to discover that Narva Museum houses a collection of designs created by local designers, who were once famous in this region. Thanks to our cooperation with an artist Maria Kapaeva, who has touched upon the themes of Kreenholm's heritage in her art works for several years now, all of us together came to the realization of the importance of reproducing this particular collection on the walls of Kreenholm. After all, it will be a reminder for both the young and old generations that art of the past can and should be revived, and also that it is important to raise interest in the topic of Narva's identity. Indeed, we should be proud of our heritage, which we believe, will be able to attract the interest and attention of not only locals but also other residents of Estonia.

We spent all three months following our win for actively preparing for the implementation of our idea. And so, at the end of August, we were perfectly equipped to bring our plan to life. (All chosen designs, which the murals were based on, are taken from the Kreenholm collection).

Our first mural at Turu 2, based on one of the designs from the Kreenholm collection. The name of the design is "Lootus".

Our second mural is made in a marine theme - boats at Kalda 6.

Our third and largest location is Joala 22 Gardens. It can be tricky to find, but definitely worth it! It was chosen for a reason - we decided to do a small collaboration with the artists Sandra Kosorotova and Sille Kim, who have just founded the "Kreenholm Garden" not far from the Narva Art Residency.

Finally, our project includes one more mural. And now more than ever, we need backers to help with its implementation. The mural is going to be the most expensive and wide-scale of all we have already completed: it will be created by robots Robot Muralist, and not by volunteers. It would be amazing if you could support us and help to distribute our message, so that we can implement everything we have planned in spring 2022.

It is very important to us to fill Narva with colours, giving local residents and tourists the gift of positive emotions and incredible energy of reviving Kreenholm heritage in a modern interpretation!

We are very much looking forward to your help and support!

Sincerely yours,
Art-Revolutionaries
