The bronze night riots, the biggest riot in independent Estonian history, revolved around the Bronze soldier. To the local russian community it represented victory over fascism, but to the estonian people, who were re-independent for 15 years already, it was still a constant reminder of the soviet occupation and an inability to let go of the past.
It's been 16 years since the events of 2007 but the themes and questions which these few nights raised for all of us are still important and topical, in whatever context.
Here we have a film about a bar owner named Aivar, who is guarding his property during the bronze night. When a stranger looking for aid knocks on his door, the situation gets more and more complicated. Should Aivar help the others looking to flee from the streets or should he protect his bar at all costs? How far is Aivar willing to go in the midst of all this chaos and how much does it actually help in the end?
Main cast
We now live in a globalised world where connecting to people of different cultures is easier than ever before. In september 2021, we too stepped into the Baltic Film, Media and Arts Institute, all different, but all with the same passion towards filmmaking.
Although our backgrounds are different and we can easily travel very far from our homes, our connection to our homeland is something we all have in common. I as an estonian value both our song festivals and our curd snacks, Sergei misses the people, Aranya misses Biryani and the vibrant colours.
Main crew
We all have that same feeling in our hearts and that is why it's important to show how quickly it can all change. Everything that we take as stable and constant might change any minute. The events of the last few years have clearly proven the point.
This is a story about the same beating love we have for our homeland, for our bar. Are we doing enough to keep it running or does the rioting crowd outside the window threaten to turn the place upside down - we might not know, but standing around watching it all happen isn't an option either.

The themes and events shown in this film are both big and in many ways complicated to handle. That's why we need your support to bring it all alive
